Reduced hours and redundancy

Can your employer put you on reduced hours and pay without your agreement? If you refuse I imagine they could dismiss you/make you redundant. For someone with a long notice period redundancy might well be a better situation to be in than one where their hours are significantly reduced.

Just trying to figure out whether they can force through reduced hours/pay or whether their options are to offer it and hope the employee accepts or otherwise dismiss the employee. Thanks!

Short answer is no- that’s a change to terms and conditions and the starting point is that consent is required. But there are ways of forcing it through if there is a genuine business need. Being clear about the alternative is one way of encouraging agreement.
