Thanks for all your help on this so far but I'm back again. I handed in my letter to request to go part time last week. I have 3 points and would like to keep some responsibility. Thinking that I'd need to negotiate, I asked to keep 2 for responsibilites which would best suit expecting that they might then let me have 1, but my head came to me and asked me to clarify in writing how I thought I could do them in the time I was there. I supposed that I would get 0.6 of the points but my union says that from the schools point of view if the job needs doing then they could say that I can't do it in 3 days. they say that I shouldn't take the full responsibility for 0.6 pay. In reality I end up doing the extra stuff in my own time anyway. The times that I can have meetings are usually after school on a Monday and Tuesday when I'm going to be there. I don't know how to phrase the request and am tempted just to say keep your points and set me freeeee! Don't tell me only I can know as I don't! My points are for Literacy, transition, gifted and talented, NQT's and students which I think is a lot!

the literacy and transition stuff looks like they might be the hardest to do part-time as they involves liaising with quite a few other staff and schools I would have thought. G&T looks the easiest and I think you could do NQTs and students but you'd need to be prepared to put a lot of your time in (and after) school for the mentoring and meetings. If I were you I'd decide which I could do best and which I enjoyed (and so wouldn't mind working a bit harder in), then write down everything you think you'd need to do in order to fit them in to a 0.6 timetable. e.g. sort out meetings on certain luchtimes / after school for your NQTs/students and draw up a programme of how your intervention / mentoring will fit in throughout the year, or something like that.

I'm on 0.6 and still have resp for new staff and performance management (which I think i bored you about in your last thread!) and it works out fine; I just have to be that bit more organised.

Only take on what you KNOW you can manage, not what you THINK you can, then show that you have planned ahead and have anticipated what your input will be and how it fits in to your time at school. That way you're more likely to do it well. The last thing you want is to struggle and end up admitting it was too much. HTH

I think you've got a valid arguement. Two teachers at school, (males) went parttime this year to share childcare. One kept his ponts as mentor to students and faculty ict coordinator. the other was head of biology and he shared his points with another teacher.

however, be careful, two other friends are parttime and this year have been sitched up a bit with their timetables, ie, coming in for part days rather than whole days, also they find that they lose their frees more than regular staff.

Sorry, just rambling really, it's not an easy situation that you find yourself in and I wish you the best of luck
