No childcare for me to work - coronavirus

I am due to return to work the week after next and my parents were supposed to be childcare. They can't as it stands because of coronavirus and I am struggling to find care. Do I have any rights with work? Is there a leave I can take until I find someone? I am a teacher.

You can ask to be furloughed if you have childcare problems.

I’m a teacher and use a childminder. Have you checked local sites to see if someone might be available for you at short notice?
In what capacity are you going back to work? My school is definitely taking reduced availability of childcare into account on a temporary basis. But coronavirus isn’t going away any time soon so if the reason why you can’t leave your child with your parents is down to that (I’m guessing they are in the vulnerable category?) I do think it’s up to you to organise alternative arrangements of some kind for the near future.

I’m going back full time. It is more just for the first couple of weeks where I can sort something. I need the right person as I never wanted to leave the baby with anyone other than family. So I just need the time to find someone I like and trust.

Speak to your work ASAP. Lots of teachers are WFH at the moment so you may be given one of those roles which means you can stay at home and work around baby.

You will not be the only person in this position. I'm in a v similar one from July. I've been upfront with work that I may have limited childcare from September too.

You can't furlough employees on public money.
Speak to school and look around for provision. What are your other teachers doing?

MeninSuits · 25/05/2020 23:28

You can send your own children to school or access a nursery place. If you are unable to get one your LA will help you find one.

Hercwasonaroll · 26/05/2020 08:00

It's hard to get places for babies from the LA at the moment however. Not all children are school age or even pre school nursery age.

Speak to school!

Obv school would be where i would ask first!!!! But the head is a **^^ so I’m seeing if anyone knows about rights - as per my question.

I am so disgusted that many will be encouraged to put their children into childcare rather than use loving grandparents.

madnessitellyou · 27/05/2020 09:41

Oneday some people actually have to do that as a matter of course!
