Colleagues complaining I am not doing enough hours

LOVELYDOVEY05 · 25/05/2020 17:05

I joined almost 2 years ago in reply to an ad to work weekends .
So I do half the hours of the others.
I have to support another family member who has to work full time
and for the last 5 years has a very poorly teenager who is in out of hospital with a life threatening condition.
Also till last summer we had a very elderly relative to visit as they went in and out of hospital etc
Manager knows this.
I enjoy my job but lately a few colleagues have started moaning that I
do fewer hours . One barged into one of my supervisions and noses
at my time sheet. I work hard when I am there but I feel uncomfortable at times

What are your contracted/agreed hours and are you doing them?

Pelleas · 25/05/2020 17:08

Surely you are receiving half the pay they are? I don't see what the problem is.

TheGirlWithAPrince · 25/05/2020 17:08

They have to understand that they get paid more surely -_0 a lot of people work part time rather than full time but they also take half the payment so screw them

LOVELYDOVEY05 · 25/05/2020 17:48

The hours were agreed with Management at the start.
I do not have a written contract and am informed by line Management that despite this no one on zero hours so it has been agreed

Could it be discrimination based on working pattern?
Yes I do try to keep away from them and just ignore any comments
Do one's job as required

I would tell your line manager. Your hours are none of their business. If they have a problem with there not being enough hands on deck then that is an issue they should take to their line manager. If they want to work fewer hours then that is an issue they should take up with their line manager.

It's not discrimination but it sounds as if it could be bullying.

converseandjeans · 26/05/2020 18:13

Are you on less pay or same pay? It's not clear. If it's same pay then I can see why they might be getting fed up as it seems to be one thing after another in terms of your family commitments.

EmeraldShamrock · 26/05/2020 18:19

They shouldn't be mean about it. I can understand in a shift job situation when some members of staff refuse to give any extra help and others are expected to do it.
I've a colleague and no matter what you ask she says sorry I've plans, we all help swap and cover otherwise everyone knows she has lots of excuses.

squiglet111 · 26/05/2020 18:26

Are they aware that your job is part time and you are only meant to do half the hours they do?

Footywife · 26/05/2020 18:52

Are you taking extra time off to deal with your family commitments? If you are, maybe they're pissed off that you're taking a lot of extra time off during the time you should be working. We've all had a colleague like that....taking time off during their working hours for medical appointments /family stuff, and it's very annoying.

LillianBland · 26/05/2020 18:58

One barged into one of my supervisions and noses at my time sheet.

WTH! What did your supervisor say?

Moondust001 · 26/05/2020 22:29

Are you doing the hours that you are contracted to work? If so then it is nobodies business. If you are taking a lot of time off work for many different reasons, then I could understand that they may become annoyed at carrying a member of staff. But this is something that you should be discussing with your manager.

KatherineJaneway · 27/05/2020 07:04

So are they angry you work part time or that you have had a lot of time off?

LOVELYDOVEY05 · 01/06/2020 09:03

My contract is part-time . I work Sat and Sun. I am paid only for those hours. No question that I am taking time off In fact my line manager had told me my sick rate is very good . Anyway I do not get sick pay. Oh it is a 24 opening service.
The problem seemed to get out of hand last Xmas Eve when (the same 2 colleagues) told me they had to work Xmas and attacked me for having a cold. I replied there were several other people at work with a cold and I would be working nearly every B hol in the coming year. Yesterday I mistakenly said something nice to one of them and they turned round and said "They were unhappy as they working long hours. Can I change that ? No
I missed 2 small jobs I had to do before I left which indicates to me
this is not about work but a personal thing

Are they complaining because they think you should take a turn working Xmas day? Well you will in 2021 when it is your rostered shift.

But how come you're working bank holidays given that they are mostly Monday's and Fridays and you only do weekends? Is it that you do it as overtime?

If you're willing to do other bank holidays as overtime the others may feel that you should also be included in a rota for Xmas day?

It's for your line manager to deal with this if the principle is that everyone works normal shifts on special days.

We normally take volunteers and then exclude previous years workers and pull from a hat for who gets shifts on Xmas and new year. We do shorter shifts so no one has to miss Xmas completely.
