you are working on a confidential project. Your team manager walks up to you and tells you that he has few pointers regarding the project that might help you and asks you to tell him the details of the project so that he can cross verify. how would you respond to such requests from a person who is not directly involved in the project and what steps would you take to ensure the confidentiality of project remain tact?

What are your initial thoughts?

I'm a bit confused by the implication that your team manager doesn't know what your project is. What sort of confidential? Are we talking "this is a secret thing" or "you must maintain subject's privacy"?

If the former, I would say "I can't give details to anyone not directly involved"; if the latter, could it be spoken of in general anonymised terms?

I'd run it past the PM of the confidential project and, if agreed, arrange for my team manager to sign the confidentiality agreement.
