Just seen perfect job but closing date has gone WWYD

Hi all,

I'm just after some advice/opinions to ask WWYD.

I've just stumbled across a job vacancy that would be absolutely perfect for me - the job role, opportunities of progression, location, hours and pay checked every box. I went to start the application (via a third party) but it was posted over a month ago and the link had expired. I then tried the webpage of the employer but the post wasn't there so the closing date has obviously been and gone. However, on the third parties post is the contact details of the recruiter and they are not planning on interviewing until September. So I'm wondering if I should just think F it and email my CV and covering email to the person in the hope that they'll like what they see? (I have a lot of relevant experience)
Or should I just leave it? I feel a bit cheeky as it's something I wouldn't usually do but the job looks perfect for me.
Also if anyone has any suggestions on what I should include in the covering email I'd be very appreciative.

Unless you have skills that are very very hard to find, you're probably out of luck, but you don't really have anything to lose by chancing your arm, so.

HDready · 13/04/2020 13:25

Absolutely go for it. You have nothing to lose. And say that you understand if they can’t put you forward for this role, but that you would like to be kept in mind for future roles. I would email the recruiter and also the company direct.

rarathenoision · 13/04/2020 13:28

100% what HDready said. Nothing to lose!

GreyishDays · 13/04/2020 13:30

Looks keen, keen is good! Definitely go for it.

Likethebattle · 13/04/2020 13:32

Nothing ventured....

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 13/04/2020 13:36

I'd always look at your application. If it's good, no way I'd hold the date against you.

AdriannaP · 13/04/2020 13:36

Go for it. I got a job before and I applied after the closing date. If you have the best CV, they will still give you an interview.

EL8888 · 13/04/2020 13:37

Go for it! Where l work are recruiting and we are struggling. It’s worth a try

Bagadverts · 13/04/2020 13:41

If you can contact the organisation/agency and see if they can send you the application form if there was one. If you cant nothing to lose by sending the cv and covering letter. With everything that’s happening the employer may find that other applicants circumstances change by then or that they drop out and welcome your application.

AmelieTaylor · 13/04/2020 13:46

Go for it!!

You have nothing to lose - except the time to do the application!

The worst that'll happen is they're happy with the number of applicants they already have and your application gets 'filed' 🤷🏻‍♀️

But given all that's going on, there's every chance it'll get out in the like of applications to look at when someone gets the opportunity!

Good luck!!

EasyLifer · 13/04/2020 13:47

I would do it. Because of the lockdown they may not have received many applications, or had chance to look at the ones they have received yet.

BrandoraPaithwaite · 13/04/2020 14:04

Go for it and acknowledge in a cover letter that you missed the deadline but couldn't allow the opportunity to pass. It shows initiative and that you're keen.

PegasusReturns · 13/04/2020 14:09

I did this a few years back.

Managed to email head of HR and the person to whom the role reported. Got fairly short shrift from HR but later they invited me to interview at behest of my potential manager.

I did get offered the role but didn’t take it as another opportunity came up.

Good luck you have absolutely nothing to lose.

SoloMummy · 13/04/2020 14:09

I would apply anyway, as you'll have lost nothing bar your time.

However, before doing so, I'd probably call and speak directly to the recruiter if you can?

ThrreeGoldfinches · 13/04/2020 14:12

I would apply directly to the Company rather than contact the recruiter.

oiwiththepoodlesalready83 · 13/04/2020 15:48

Thank you for all of your replies. I have emailed the company directly, acknowledged that I've missed the closing date and have sent them my covering letter and CV.

Good luck with it all. That sounds like an excellent approach
