Interviews

Recently I have attended a couple of job interviews and although I felt the interview went well, I literally never heard another word from the company !
One company quite professional other more a one man band, so not similar.
I would expect to receive at least a 'sorry unsuccessful' email after having spent time and effort to attend an interview ?
I think its rude ! Is this normal procedure ?

It is normal procedure these days, at least with some companies. It could also be they're holding off rejecting people until they see if their first choice will actually accept. It is very frustrating, either way.

I think it is fairly normal, but it really pisses me off when companies do this. It's a PITA applying for jobs in the first place, employers often want you to fill out their long and complex application forms then write a detailed personalised statement explaining how you meet their 1000 criteria/competencies, then you have to give up (usually) at least half a day's annual leave to go to the interview, sometimes travelling quite a distance, not to mention all the preparation time and then they can't even be bothered to send a 1 line 'thanks but no thanks' email? So rude. I don't expect detailed reasons and feedback every time I am rejected (although it is nice to have!) but it's horrible sitting in increasingly-dejected limbo for weeks on end.

Most medium/large employers these days utilise recruitment management software that will send generic rejection emails to all unsuccessful candidates at the click of a button so there's no excuse really, I just don't understand why they don't do it...

I think its very rude, you have taken the time and effort to apply and attend an interview so they should absolutely let you know either way.
If interview is recent it could be you are placed second and they are waiting to see if first candidate accepts and signs contract before contacting you.

Unfortunately yes it's the new normal, and even if you do get a rejection, it's usually automated and you can't get feedback. Or a new one on me is a rejection by text!! Recruitment agents are just as bad, your best friend until you don't get the job then won't take your calls. The total lack of basic manners is utterly depressing!!

Thanks all, nice to have some empathy in a tough market :-)

Yes this is normal. Every time I've applied for a job I get messed about.

No news is bad news in this game

I agree it's so rude unprofessional and inconsiderate.

However in my experience, usually they will get back to you very quickly if they want to offer you the job ie the same day or following day.

So if it's been a few days unfortunately you probably didn't get it. Having said that I did get offered a job about 2 weeks after the interview once when I'd given up on it so it is possible.

Job hunting is a soul destroying game these days and I'm sure lots of companies don't get the right person for the job because the algorithms have rejected them long before interview stage.
