Redundancy - Company has re-advertised role

Hello everyone, you have me great advice to keep myself cheery during my redundancy notice period etc and I have found a new job. Today I was made aware that my company has now re-advertised the role with a different job title. Devastated doesn't cover what I am feeling as it has made me feel so worthless, but are they actually allowed to do this?

"I've heard on the grapevine that somebody has another role within the company, so effectively left the post once they were successful."

So it could be perfectly genuine and above board then, and there was a genuine business change that created the vacancy after the redundancy. It happens, and it's perfectly lawful if so.

What about going back, would you consider approaching them? Did you leave on good terms

One final thanks. Yes I did leave on good terms, but I was so, so embarrassed to not get the job that I don't think I could approach them. I don't think that anything would change either as they would insist on full time hours.

What I do think you've helped me to understand really is that it isn't personal and I should get over it really as sh*t happens and they couldn't foresee an imminent vacancy. I think it's just bought forward all of my feelings of uselessness again - they are more about me and something I need to work on myself, and pick myself up and move on!

Sounds like just what theyve done in my ex-work. I was there 12 years, others made redundant after 20 yrs etc. Im going to claim against them, because i now hate them, i was angry, at first now im just annoyed that they can treat people that way.

As above though, yu can only claim for your losses, but the solicitors will try to mediate 1st, so they may settle with you without needing a tribunal.

Im getting my life on track and then im going to go right ahead an prceed w the claim. Because they r twats.

In all honesty, I think you should leave it.

You could seek legal advice just on the premise that your redundancy was the result of their needing to reduce headcount, but all it would do it paint you in a negative light for future employers. You have your redundancy; I think you should just move on and chalk it up to experience.

I am not a lawyer but I am not certain they have acted illegally. the fact that this is a full time role and it's lower paid does make a difference, and it is ok for the actual role of the person made redundant to not be redundant if the overall fte of the team has gone down and they are redeploying their available fte to cover your old role in a different way. The high paid part time role you enjoyed still doesn't exist.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 28/02/2020 04:26

It's a new role with different hours. They reduced their staffing levels and now one of the remaining staff is moving on so needs replacing, on a full time basis.

Crispsarnie · 28/02/2020 12:51

Thanks. Yes the role I applied for was never part-time in the original restructure. It was for a certain number of FTEs. I was working on a part-time basis, and they made in clear in line with the law that everyone would be treated equally and should apply on their remaining contracts, however I think what really annoys me is that I don't believe the outcome honestly reflected this. There were some people who didn't want to apply and were happy to have redundancy for various reasons, but I was the only applicant who didn't remain in the company when the roles were filled.
