Working out pro rata salary and holiday allowance

Hi, I'm hoping some HR/payroll experts could help me out.

I've just started a new job and I still don't know exactly what I'm being paid.

The full time salary is £23000 pa and they do a 35 hour week. I work 5 hours a day 5 days a week so 25 hours a week.

Nobody seems to know the pro rata actual salary! I think it should be worked out as 25/35 x £23000 = £16428. Is this correct or am I missing something?

The annual leave for full time is 29 days plus 8 days bank holidays.

They've said, but seem unsure tbh, that my annual leave is 20.4 days plus bank holidays. In my previous job the full time annual leave was 25 days plus bank holidays. I worked 4 hours per day, 5 days per week but still got 25 days annual leave.

I think I'm still entitled to 29 days as I work 5 days a week. If I worked 2.5 days a week then it would be pro rata at 14.5 days per year but I would still get the same leave in terms of weeks as full time staff.

The HR girl seems to be very unsure and seems to be guessing a lot of the time.

My contract only states the full time salary of £23000 and the holiday allowance of 37 days.

Please help as I need to sort this out so I know how much I should get paid at the end of the month. Thank you!

Also, is this unusual? I've never had a job before where they don't seem to know these things!

If holiday is worked out in days you work 5 days a week, albeit short days. You are therefore entitled to 29+8 of your 'short days'.
If it's worked out in hours for part timers then that's different but works out to be the same number of hours.
You have worked the salary out correctly

Thank you, that's what I thought, but I'm no HR expert. Are there any online calculators I can use to explain it to them if I need to?
Thank you!

The gov.uk website gives really useful calculators for this. Type holiday entitlement into Google and anything with gov.uk in it will have useful info.

@Musicaltheatremum, thanks for that. All the online calculators use the statutory leave entitlement of 20 days plus bank hols.

Our leave is 29 days plus bank hols.

I've managed to work it out in hours.

Our full time hours are 35 hours per week.
So 29+8= 37 days per year.
37÷ 7 = 7.4 weeks per year.

So a full time employee is entitled to 35 x 7.4 hours annual leave per year = 259 hours per year and 259/7 = 37 days.

A part timer working 25 hours per week is entitled to 25 x 7.4 hours = 185 hours per year.

185 /5 = 37 days.
