I have a vacancy in my team my manger has identified someone we can move over on a managed move. This person is very good and would bring a lot to my team. However, this person is already on a similar salary to me. We are the same grade (I get paid 6% extra to manage people on the same grade) but to bring someone over on the same salary as me when I'm managing a team of 18 and accountable for the whole pillar I think is unfair and demotivating. I'm tempted to say I don't want this person on this basis. What do you think?

If the person has the skills to do the job then you can’t say they can’t do it. Why are they looking for a managed move?

I’ve had teams where the manager is in the same grade as people they are managing, it feels wrong but happens in the public sector in my experience

I don't have a problem managing the same grade I already manage 3 on the same grade already. My issue is surely I should earn more given I am accountable for the whole pillar, revenue on the senior team etc?

Managed move become that's the easiest way to get the person in Shockunless hr say different...

I used to manage people that got paid more than me due to TUPE. If the person is right for the job then they should get it.

The rules is the rules, you can't turn them down because they get paid more.

I had a promotion last year and because of my previous pay scale, where I was on it and where it met the new one I went straight to the top of the new pay scale. Because of this I was paid £6k more than my colleague who had been at my new grade for 4 years.

The new rules (no increments) will make this less prevalent, but that's how it is I'm afraid!
