Notice period

I changed job six months ago and hate it. I had an interview this morning and another tomorrow. I’d like to leave ASAP if o get an offer but know that as I have a 4 week notice period they could pursue me for any loss they feel they have incurred if I don’t work my notice. On an administrative role how likely in a very small company would this be? I just want to walk right now!!!

Pretty unlikely. Your biggest risk is obviously you won’t be able to get a good reference from them, now or in future.

Thanks @flowery I’d try not to use them as a reference and use my previous two employers. I dread going in, I actually paused outside the door debating whether to just go home instead today.

Hopefully one of your interviews will result in a job offer. They will expect a candidate to have a notice period, 4 weeks is very normal for your kind of job.

Once you have handed in your resignation the 4 weeks will go very quickly, and you can shorten it by taking any accrued holidays you're owed at the end of your notice period.

@daisychain01 I will ask to take a week of holiday with the sweetener of them not having to pay me for accrued holidays. I know of the one today results in an offer they would prefer an ASAP start.

If it's a small company it's really crappy not to work your notice. It's 4 weeks, not 4 months.

I left once without serving my notice. They didn't do anything.

I left a job with shortened notice. Ie it should have been 4 weeks but I offered 1 week and they accepted.

It's worth asking as the company you are leaving might be happier not to pay the full notice.

I got the job that I interviewed for today so I will be handing on my notice this week. I’m meant to be having a chat with a director on Friday about something else. Since they were dicks to me about something I will just tell them then.
