Want to change my shift pattern... advice needed...

I work 6-1400 and 1400-2200

Ideally I want to work 6-1400 only... 2 reasons, I'm the primary carer for my autistic son, he attends special school and struggles with our routine of me their one week and not the next.

2nd reason is my wife has huntingtons disease and its staying to progress an a noticable rate. I feel when I work 1400 -2200 she struggles at home and she would benefit from a more structured routine too. We have had things on fire in the kitchen, my son refusing to come home when I dont collect him. I feel I'm wasting my day once I've dropped my 2 boys off at school and not in work until 1400.

I have a letter from my doctor also backing this up and a letter from my sons special school from the headteacher and the family carers hub based on the school.

These hours would also allow me to make appointments in the late afternoon for the 2 people I care for and not worry about what shift I'm on. (Phoning and rearranging always seem to cause delays)

I got a flexi hour request today but it doesnt really state why I am making the request, only 2 main questions.
1, impact and 2. accommodating of new working shift pattern

I have a letter wrote out (proof read and better punctuated than this thread) I'm I wrong yo just put "see attached letter of request"

The impact will be others working the late shift instead of you. Is there any one else willing to work just lates?

How old is your autistic son?

You could ask to trial the new pattern for 3 months and offer a degree of flexibility when needed.

"I got a flexi hour request today but it doesn't really state why I am making the request, only 2 main questions.1, impact and 2. accommodating of new working shift pattern"

This is because the reason the employee is making the request is entirely irrelevant to the decision about whether to grant it or not. So the form focuses on getting you to show that you understand the impact and have ideas about how to address it so that your request can be granted without negatively affecting everyone else.

"I have a letter wrote out (proof read and better punctuated than this thread) I'm I wrong to just put "see attached letter of request""

By all means attach the letter as well, but as I said, the reasons for your request shouldn't form any part of the decision, so make sure you address the business-relevant stuff about the impact of your proposed change and how it can be minimised.

@LennyPugGoat my son is 7. I cannot really think of anybody as their isnt much interaction with the other shift to be honest.

@flowery

I've stated that my experience can be shared between both shifts, especially in my department as their are going to be modifications in the summer. I have worked with staff on the opposite shift over Christmas as we were really busy and I have a good relationship with them.
