Can I get a sicknote without seeing a Doctor?

Hi, I'm currently on my 4th day off work with virus/flu-like symptoms. I rang the NHS Helpline today and was advised not to visit a Doctor with these symptoms but just to rest, drink plenty of fluids and take paracetamol. Which is pretty much what I've been doing anyway.

My question is: If I still feel unfit for work on Monday, I'm going to need a sicknote from my GP to give to my employer. Is it possible to obtain one without being seen by a Doctor? I work for the NHS and we strongly dissuade anyone from presenting at the hospital with flu-like symptoms, as it is a risk to other patients (obviously) I would imagine that my Doctor's surgery will have the same guidelines.
Can anyone advise me? I'm feeling worse by the day.

I wouldn't have thought so, sick notes at my work have to have a GP signature

Does your surgery have e consult? There is special option for admin tasks like sick notes on there. I imagine they'd do it over the phone and leave it at reception for you to collect.

The form will be signed. OP means can she phone and request one without going into the surgery. Ours will usually do a telephone consult and then doc will sign the form for someone to collect.

@iklboo So I could ring up, have telephone consultation, and potentially get my Son to go and pick up a sicknote for me? Therefore posing no risk of passing my lurgy on to anyone.

Thank you for the advice, I'll call my Dr's surgery tomorrow :-)

Call the practice and ask for their advice. The GP may well do it over the phone if they don’t want you coming in

My GP would issue a sick note via telephone, and my employer would accept it at a delayed date if I couldn't go and collect it (NHS).

Thank you everyone. My GP is getting a sicknote ready for someone to pick up for me just incase I need it.
