What, if anything, should I do

I've got a nice job in a supportive organisation, which is rare in my sector. Recently someone else was employed in a similar job to mine and shortly after my supervisor reduced her hours. I think there was a vague plan from management that between me and my other colleague some of the supervisors workload would be taken on by us and an admin assistant, who then wasn't recruited for several months.
My supervisor is stressed and she seems to be taking this out on my colleague. Some stuff isn't getting done, mistakes are being made.

I get on with everyone really. There is more work than can reasonably be done between us. There are occasional cock ups, largely due to workload, there seems to be an effort to blame my colleague. She feels the supervisor is being very unfair, accusing her of not pulling her weight. Shes very upset. Shes thinking about leaving and very unhappy.

To make matters more complicated myself and colleague have both come to our current jobs via a step down from management elsewhere. We are sympathetic to our supervisor but keen not to take on her responsibilities. All three of us are part time. Colleague is quite tactless, but definitely being treated unfairly. I'm worried she'll leave which won't be great for the department or for her.

What to do? I'm tempted to just keep my head down and hope it all blows over.
I get along with my supervisor but don't feel able to confront her. I could talk to her manager, who I think might be supportive, but I don't 100% trust her not to make things worse. I get on well with her manager too and do trust them, but it feels like really that's not my place?
I really like this job, but its getting stressful.

Stay well out. If you are asked to give evidence in an employment tribunal or similar then morally you ought to speak up but its not your job to protect and fight for this colleague.. you will only sour thinga for you. Id also look at jumping ship, when you have a job to go to.

Yeah, that's my gut instinct, such a shame, I was really enjoying it. Not many attractive jobs in my sector locally, but I'm definitely going to look around..
