Term time working and pre-booked holiday

Hi everyone

Was wondering if anyone has any information which could possibly help me..

I very shortly have a job interview at my local university. The job is a great opportunity for me, I've wanted to get out of dead end jobs since finishing my degree and I have finally been offered an interview for a role I can really see myself thriving in!

The only thing is, whilst preparing for the interview today it states the following:

" term-time only contracts do not have an annual leave entitlement during term-time; they
have 12 weeks of leave per annum and the equivalent holiday entitlement is factored into the
monthly salary)"

This role is only term time, and I wouldn't usually have an issue with this at all, but my partner has already booked me a very special 10 day holiday for my 30th birthday, he has already put a lot of time and money towards it and it's something we've been looking forward to and have planned for a LONG time..

So my question is whether you think my potential employer would handle a pre-booked holiday differently? And would mentioning it put me at a massive disadvantage compared to other candidates?

Presently I feel really torn between a fantastic career ( If I get the job!) and a holiday of a lifetime which we have already invested so much time and money in! I know one is a long term goal, and the other is just a holiday but I really want to think of way of potentially keeping both.

Thank you in advance

They will probably ask you at interview if you have any holidays booked; but you will either need to accept that they may not authorise leave in term time and if they do, it will be unpaid.

Ahhhh such a difficult one. I would just make it clear you have a pre booked holiday, but that you’re happy to either take it unpaid or make the hours up.

Or...... call in sick.

How far ahead is the holiday? Might you be able to rearrange the dates? or if soon, delay the job start date?

Don't even consider calling in sick every day for 10 days.
