AAT accountancy level 2 - anyone done this online??

Hello! Seeking advice and recommendations!

I am a SAHM but I would like to return to work now my son is at school, and after much thought, I believe an AAT level 2 qualification in accountancy would be a good next step for me.

I wanted to ask, has anyone studied for AAT with a distance/online provider and if so, which one? Would you recommend them? And how long did it take you to get the qualification? Did it work well to study online or do you think a classroom based course would be better?

(A little background...I'm 42 and I've had several years out of the workplace but in the (distant!) past had a few junior accounts/bookeeping roles, mostly in the public sector. I was pretty good at my job and I enjoyed the work, so it seems an obvious area to try and return to, and I think this qualification would really help).

I'd really appreciate any advice!
Many thanks. xx

I went for Foundation Certificate in Accounting rather than Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping, as I preferred the slightly more comprehensive syllabus. But I guess it depends what you see yourself doing once you've got the qualification. Personally, I'm not sure, so I thought I'd do the one which covers a bit more material to cover a few more bases!
However, from what I remember of the AAT website, I think you are correct and the Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping is the two Bookkeeping exams only (perhaps someone else who's done it can confirm?).

Foundation Certificate in Accounting is definitely 5 exams:
Bookkeeping Transactions
Bookkeeping Controls
Elements of Costing
Using Accounting Software
and
Foundation Stage Synoptic (I've not taken this yet. It sounds like a sort of "overview" test of everything on the course).

Hope that helps. Good luck with whatever you choose! Smile

Thanks, that’s helpful. I’ll keep plodding on for now! I’m finding Bookkeeping Controls easier than Bookkeeping Transactions, things are starting to fall into place a bit more Smile

@fierydormouse I’m so glad you updated the thread. I hadn’t commented but it’s been an open tab on my browser since January. I’m currently doing a Business management and finance degree at uni and wanted to go down the AAT route but couldn’t afford it. I’m just about to finish my module so I’m looking to get studying for the AAT now.
I had a look originally at the books other posters have suggested but I got really confused with what I would need, can you point me in the right direction please? X

Hi can anyone advise me of the cost/fees when self studying AAT level 2? Is it £80 for each of the 5 exams? And the AAT membership fee? Any other costs involved ( apart from text books)
How long would it take roughly to study level 2 ( not working currently and school aged child so free to study during day)
