Good evening ladies,

I am working part time for a quite well know company. I have been there 20 years. I am currently in the situation where I am not even being offered interviews as they are full-time only jobs. Despite asking for a pay review I have not had one in over 8 years, some of admin staff get cost of living increases but apparently my role in my side of the business does not. I want to raise a formal grievance. Do I have grounds? I am at the point where year on year the cost of all my bills increase but my pay does not.

Are there full time employees in the same role as you being given pay rises?

A grievance would need to be against a wrong decision - eh, someone used a policy incorrectly. What’s the policy on pay increases?

The problem is that everyone else on my side of the company is in sales so their salary can go up annually based on their increasing sales. Although I am on the sales side I do not earn commission therefore I cannot increase my salary like they can. I have asked for the last 4 years for a review but it falls on deaf ears.

No as I am the only person doing my role.

You may need to vote with your feet.

I would say you do not have adequate grounds for a grievance unless your contract states there will be annual salary reviews.

As long as you are being paid minimum wage and the reason for your lack of pay rise isn’t a discriminatory one, then unless your contract says otherwise you’re not entitled to increases.

Are the jobs you are applying for external or internal? On what basis are you applying if you don’t want to do the hours for the job- are you putting together something showing how you think the job can be done in the hours you want?
