Just that really – I know in the UK most places will give you up to 3 days paid leave and then it is up to them to decide what they want to do, but it seems to be such a mixed bag.

I’m a teacher.

My Dad died when I was in my 20s.

He died on the Thursday. I took a sick day the following day, then got 5 days compassionate leave, which allowed me a full week off. I count myself as very lucky.

It was a bit rough going back to teaching on the Monday as if nothing had happened though. I remember some of my pupils complaining that I’d been off!

Wouldn’t be allowed any time off for grandparents/cousins/aunts/uncles etc, but I’d be allowed off for the day of the funeral.

I got a week when df died. This was the right amount of time to organize the things for the funeral and support dm.I had only been working a month but they paid me.
TBH I need to keep busy and I needed those days off to recharge from his traumatic passing and many months of deteriorating health.
I think it should be law.

I couldn't imagine less than two weeks off never mind only three days off. My daughter died on the 24th January and funeral on the 30th. I'm still off and expect to be past the end of the month on sick leave.
