Should I lie on my CV?

I'm currently applying for a job I really want and I need some advice

What happened is I got a job as a manager for a small business in Jan 18, the owner he decided to sell the business in June 19 and I became the owner. 5-6 months on and I've decided to look for something else

I love the job and the role, but I know there is no real career progression I feel I've done as much as I can there

Do I admit I don't want to carry on only 6 months into being the owner?
Or should I just say I have been the manager for 2 years instead?

I'd prefer to be honest but don't want to spoil my chances!

BTW, is the [former] business anything that could conflict with your new job? If not, less of an isshoo. You cod even consider retaining ownership of it and hiring in a new manager, if you get the dream job.

@SausageSimon, I definitely think that's the best approach, best of luck to you!

On a personal note, I love the idea of working in a museum! It's my 'go to' place to relax, study the history of antiquities which I adore, and see teams of excited children on school outings enjoying the experience as much as I remember doing. Helping people take away with them mementos of their wonderful day would be a joy, my ideal job. I'd like to think I'd encourage them to come back and visit areas they might have missed or revisit ones they have enjoyed.

Just saying.......Wink

Hi @SausageSimon - was just wondering how you got on?

SausageSimon · 10/01/2020 15:13

Hi @Taddda lovely of you to check in!

I sent in my application and the closing date is next week then the interview date is a week after that. So I've got everything crossed that I get the interview!

I've never not got the job when I've been interviewed so far so I'm hoping that gives me a chance if I do get one

Best of luck @SausageSimon ! Fingers crossed here for you too Smile

If you google your name, does the Companies House directorship come up on the first page of results? If so then I would avoid lying. Because they will google you at some point

SausageSimon · 10/01/2020 20:01

I've googled myself with a variety of different extras added on the end including my address and the business name but nothing has come up! 🤔 @feesh

Thank you @Taddda I don't know how to feel I keep getting excited and then nervous haha

But you will still be the owner until you sell it?
Having another job doesn't change that. It's just that you're not choosing to work for your own business....

Taddda · 13/01/2020 15:54

Irrelevant on the CV and application, it's a financial interest

SausageSimon · 14/01/2020 15:09

@Taddda I think candidates who have been shortlisted will hear back on Thursday!
As I had an email from a woman saying they've received my application and shortlisting is now taking place, it said her work days are Tuesday to Thursday so I'm guessing that'll be the day!

My fingers are crossed 🤞🏻

I have seen another position I'm interested in so hopefully if I can get one of them I'll be happy Grin

The other is an education role within an art gallery which is the exact job I was looking for when I left uni but they're hard to come by. I don't have the experience required but I have the degree they want, some related experience and a lot of passion if nothing else haha

@SausageSimon 🤞for you here! The other job sounds amazing! It sounds like you interview well, passion for a position with the right qualifications will always shine regardless of experience. Actually, sometimes complaceny kicks in with experience, so showing a 'hunger for' instead might just work in your favour....
Keep us posted! Smile

SausageSimon · 24/01/2020 19:05

No interview sadly! Thought I'd come back and update. I've requested feedback on my application which I realise is very optimistic of me as chances are they don't have time but worth asking isn't it Smile

Fortunately there's another job I'm applying for, which is the type of job I desperately wanted when I left uni so more what I'd like to do. The specification of experience is laughably specific, there'll be an extremely limited number of people in the country that have experience in the 72 different areas they're asking for Grin

However, I'll give it a good go!
