Two months pay in one payslip

I am on SMP so only getting roughly £594 a month.

Last month my employer had an issue with the system and I didn’t get paid and they then sent the 594 through bank transfer although they made no deductions for pension etc. This is only 8 pound and I don’t pay national insurance on my smp amount so assumed they’d double it next month.

So I’ve just checked my payslip and they have put last month and this month on one payslip therefore showing that I’ve earned 1200 this month. They’ve then deducted the amount they paid me through bank transfer leaving me with 594 for this month.

This would be fine except I have been deducted amounts based on me earning 1200 even though I haven’t. So I have out of the remaining 594 been deducted 65 pound for national insurance even though on two separate pay slips I wouldn’t have paid any and I’ve been deducted 28 and 21 pound for my pensions even though on a normal month I pay 3 and 4 pound.

It’s left me quite short this month and considering their fuck up wasn’t my fault and I haven’t actually earned this amount at all why should I have to be 100 pound down this month through their fault.

Is there anything I can do? Thanks for any advice Smile

I had this once a few years ago. I was paid an extra 30 hours on top of my normal wages and as a result ended up paying more tax, national insurance and pension contributions. I, of course had to pay the money back the following month so was out of pocket due to their fuck up. No advice here unfortunately but I can sympathise as I know how frustrating it is. Hopefully someone will be along with some good advice for you.

It’s tough on SMP as it is. To lose 100 pound through deductions that isn’t my fault is absolutely gutting I’ll be honest Sad

I can imagine It must be very difficult. Employers never take these factors into consideration. It's like when they pay employees early and then they get punished by universal credit (not experienced it myself but know people who have).

I hope you get it sorted

Hapenned to me when I started my new job. So basically you need to contact HMRC to ensure you are on correct tax code (accumulative one) and then they will rectify it and will refund your overpaid tax in your next pay. 100%. Your employer should have advised this you as well :)

I had the same as @Undecided91

HMRC were brilliant and all got fixed quickly, I was refunded in the next payment run.

Would that cover the national insurance?

They’ve also overpaid by 40 pound on pensions and 60 pound on an attachment to earnings as they should have only taken 30 a month and this month they’ve taken 120 Sad.

Thank you for everyone’s help.
