Any NHS Band 7 Inerviewers out there!! Conflict scenario at interview.

Hi, I'm trying to prep for an interview. I keep feeling that the examples I have are not good enough.
I know I'll be asked a Conflict question. I world alone, so have lots of 121 examples of agressive patient/assualt vs me experience & examples.
But; I feel that my 'Team' answers are sketchy & I think they'll be basing this on Team/Leadership working.
Help!!!
Also-qualities. I'm rubbish at selling myself. How do I list my positive attributes & sell myself?

Interviews often start with "tell us a bit about yourself" or "why do you want this job?". That's the ideal time to sell your experience and skills, preferably followed up near the end of you get an opportunity.

If your "team" answers are sketchy I'd be tempted to flip it. Basically I'd say the opportunity to work as a team/ leading were key reasons for wanting this new job. I'd then give an example from outside of work.

Btw, depending on the rest of the field, you can generally afford at least one weak question!

Make sure you have an answer to more technical questions and "a time when things didn't go well" as well.

Good luck.

Is it a competency based interview?

Jiggles101 · 17/12/2019 15:11

Clinical B7 here - NHS interviews are v structured and never start with tell us about yourself or why do want this job annoyingly!

If it's a clinical role it's good to have an example of a time you've used supervision or reflective practices and what you've done differently as a result.

There is a question about tell us about a time you've experienced an interpersonal conflict (doesn't have to necessarily be at work) and how you resolved it. (This doesn't necessarily have to be true remember!)

Also it's good to prepare answers about risk/safeguarding procedures and information governance.

LakeFlyPie · 17/12/2019 15:16

IME of B7 interviews there is often a scenario question which requires you to demonstrate understanding of managing the team below you but also having awareness of how to access / utilise senior team support in a clinical or challenging team situation scenario

Frothybothie · 17/12/2019 15:16

They will ask - what are your strengths? - answer positively and concisely.

"and any weaknesses?"
To which you pause.... "I'm not aware of any, but If I was advised of any areas where I was needing to improve I would seek to do so."

despondentatwork · 17/12/2019 21:53

Thank you all......yes competency based interview. I didn't do very well last time. Scores 5/6/7/10. Need to work on it, but have very little time.

Jiggles...the problem I have is that all of the examples of change or conflict I have, I feel are too basic/simple. What kind of change or conflict scenarios are acceptable at an NHS Competency based Band 7 interview?

And also...is it ok to be repetitive. So if my example of leading the team is also an example of how I'm flexible or a conflict scenario is it ok to use it again??

Not NHS but did work in senior recruitment for a while and it is not a good idea to use the same example twice to make a different point. It makes a candidate look like they have a lack of experience if they cannot come up with different examples to showcase their skills / experience for each question.

I can’t imagine this would ever be a good idea, no.

In my last job, I used to interview candidates for NHS roles in my team. I would mark down anybody who came out with this sort of un-self aware rubbish.
