Company cars and P11's

Hi all,

In a nutshell:

Earlier this year I took a job with a company who filled me with lies. I took a company car which cost a bomb in tax as it was a sports Mercedes. I was treated so badly I decided to cut my losses and look for another job. They found my cv online and basically decided to not only demand why I was looking for work but they also knew the times I had been online and when I'd updated my cv (cheers reed)

Anyways I got called into a meeting which I knew they were trying to dismiss me under absolute BS but I was ready to go and allowed them to record said meeting on their iPhone...

Anyways I'm long gone from there but that was the 14th Feb and they took the car off of me on that date. They've since informed the tax office ( several months later) that I handed the car back on the 19th. Which isn't true they're well aware it went back to them on the 13th. My question is tax office are saying I need to contact them to correct this. Have I got anyway to stand regarding them doing this deliberately to screw me over? Can I enforce they change but so that's it's correct? They're a very dodge company and I wouldn't trust them as far as I can throw them. I could be wrong but is this effecting my tax and would I be owed money? Or is it not worth it?

Thanks

Most of your post is completely irrelevant. The relevant facts are that you handed the car back on 14 February but your ex employer have notified HMRC that you handed it back 5 days later, so your P11D is slightly incorrect.

By looking at the amount of tax you paid on the car you should be able to work out how much more those 5 days have cost you, so you can decide whether it’s worth pursuing.

I assume you have contacted payroll at the company and asked them to correct the error? What was the response?

No I haven't. It's a family run business and a complete nightmare to deal with.

I don't think it's irrelevant trying to paint a picture of whom I'm dealing with. They're not the nicest people to work for.

5 days tax will not be worth the stress.

Ok

Well that's kind of what I'm thinking to just leave it. Thanks both.
