How to pay someone

I have just employed someone new. She’s on 20 hours a week. But with her hours being 20 per week, do I also pay her in accordance to how many hours she’s worked that month? Or do I pay her a set monthly figure?

Her annual income is £12480 and monthly it’s £1040 so should I just stick to £1040 per month so it averages out?

But what if she then leaves and I’ve been overpaying her for each month?

I guess she is entitled to 20 days holiday plus bank holidays?

TIA

It depends if you pay her a salary or by the hour. If it's a salary you divide yearly amount by 12, if it's per hour you pay her what she earns every month as it could differ with overtime etc. She does get holiday, it's 28 days pro rata as 28 days is full time and she works part time.

You wouldn't be overpaying her if she leaves, what makes you think that?

(28 days being 20 days plus bank holidays)

You divide the annual salary by 12. That’s the monthly salary. Normally employers don’t claw anything back for February or months with 30 days. If you pay weekly you would not have this issue but it’s a faff and who pays weekly? Just set it up for 1/12 every month. That’s what is normal.
