Too old to retrain?

I work as a support worker at the moment but my job offers no chance of progression & I just feel that something is missing.
I love the idea of retraining as a midwife but at 40 wonder if I'm to old.
Anyone ever tries to retrain in an area completely different to what they have been doing later on in their lives?
Any midwives would you recommend retraining at this age?

I’m not a mw or a career changer, but plenty folk do successfully change/retrain
My friends mum retrained as a nurse when she was in her 40s. It’s achievable
Do you have the grades for the midwifery degree?
If you’ve not recently studied I’d advise take an access course or other study eg Alevel
It’s fiercely competitive to get on the MW degree do try talk to mw understand the course, the demands of the job
Are you a support worker in health or can get an hca post

Finance
You’ll need to take out a student loan

Travel
Can you drive?

Practice placement can be over a distance in hospital, clinic and community how will you travel for E and L shifts

Family/ carer responsibilities, who’ll look after your kids
