Not leaving on time

My DS has his first job. Every shift he leaves 20-30 mins late - he doesn’t go until he’s told to go and is locked in (it’s a shop and he works after the shop closes). He’s being paid minimum wage. He’s been treated well apart from the lateness. I’m wondering if keeping him late is a breach of minimum wage laws.
He won’t complain but I’m thinking of complaining to head office

Does he work at Next? They were buggers for this when I was there.

It's wrong if he's not paid for the extra time, I'm in retail and we're always late after finishing times but we are paid for every minute.

I'd he sure he's not paid for every 15mins or so? If not then he needs to stand up for himself and say he needs to leave on time due to getting home on trains.

If they aren't paying him andaking him late then I'd be telling him to look for work elsewhere, he shouldn't have to out up with shoddy work conditions

It's definitely wrong. You could try contacting ACAS for advice on the situation from a minimum wage perspective.

It isn't that it's never wrong for anyone to work extra time. If you are on a salary well above NMW and it's included in your contract that some extra time (unpaid) might be necessary, then that's reasonable.

If you are on NMW, you should be paid overtime for extra hours or allowed to bank the time in exchange for an early finish once a week or similar.
