Nurses using foodbanks

Claude Littner caused a stir today, by suggesting Nurses who are hard up could get a second job to save going to the food bank.Am I missing something here ,are Nurses really that hard up? Always thought they had a reasonable wage TBH .

No they aren't that hard up. The starting salary is around 23k I think and then there's usually enhancements for nights and weekends unless you have a 9-5 day ward or clinic type job. A top band 5 is around 28K I think without enhancements. I have left nursing within the last year but never thought of it as being badly paid, well only in respect of the enormous stress I was under and the wages could never compensate for that but other areas of Nursing can be less stressful.

Depends on where in the country you are / what your outgoings are - 23k in London with kids = v hard up

Oh good this again. I am a nurse but won't say much as everyone piles in saying we get overpaid, have a gold plated pension blah blah. If it's so well paid why are there so many vacancies and if everyone thinks the work is so easy for such great pay go for it.

It's a modest wage considering the responsibilities but not that low. There was an article talking about this issue in the papers a few months back but investigating the claim journalists uncovered that the nurses were part time thus earning under £15k
