No one can tell you exactly and I’m not in nursing but I have been on the interview panel for band 6 jobs. Probable topics are service evaluation, service development, why you applied and what you can bring to the post, possibly some scenarios - how would you manage this? type thing. Sometimes they will ask if you know what the role entails to see if you have a realistic grasp of the job. Managing caseloads and prioritisation. Visiting the service beforehand is advisable in my experience.

NHS interviews are normally a combination of competency questions and values/ behaviours questions. We normally ask 4-5 of each. The competency questions are to see whether you have the right skills and experience to do the job, and you'll be asked to give an example of how you would deal with a particular situation. It's a good idea to use examples of what you have done in other roles as evidence.

The behaviours questions will be based on the values and behaviours of the trust. You should have a copy of these in the JD or in the website so make sure you have a good understanding of what they're looking for. Again, use examples to show how you have dealt with situations in the past similar to the scenarios the interviewer gives you.

The interviewer will probably score your answers. This is ensure the process of fair and transparent. Answer the questions with as much depth and detail. Take your time and don't be afraid to ask the interviewer to repeat the question. Have some questions lined up to ask at the end of the interview.

Good luck!

Don't ask stupid questions that reveal your lack of knowledge about the speciality or anything you could have found out from the trust website.

Consider scenarios from your past that could demonstrate your competence. Think about your reasons for applying and skills to bring. Think about how transferable your experience with CS is.

Good luck

Oh, NHS Band 6.

Is everybody on MumsNet either NHS or education? It might be worth posters clarifying their employer in their thread titles and posts Confused Band 6 means something completely different where I work, and you wouldn't be looking for advice for such a lowly position!
