I need advice on changing job (nurse)

I am currently a band 6 in a busy ward environment, I work nights / weekends and struggling to do the odd weekday. I have 2 children a husband who commutes an hour into a city so he leaves at 7am and gets back just in time for me to take a night shift. I have to relay on my elderly mother to come in at 7 am to do the school run for me when working during the week. Basically it’s awful and stressful and can not go on.
A community job ( more 9-5 ish so probably 8.30-6) has come up locally BUT it’s a band 5.
I have been a band 6 for 14 years I am hugely experienced across a massive range of specialties within the type of nursing I do. I am very well qualified and thus a top band 6 although part time.

Would it be a bad idea to drop the grade ? I would have to increase hours obviously.

Advice please. I have done community before as a band 6 pre children so I’m not completely even going into a new area.

I have always been ambitious but children and juggling has really dragged me down. I wonder if I should hold out for a 6 to come up or just see if any development opportunities come up in the band 5 to go back up to a 6.
Thank you for any advice

I did this. Went from a band F to a band E on community. I did it to save my sanity and have a life with my family.

At the end of the day you have to evaluate what works best for you.

Good luck.

If you could manage as a family with less money, I’d consider it.as Your current situation sounds very stressful.

Just need to be sure you’re not leaving one stressful job for another though.

Hi - I went from a highly specialised band 6 to a term time band 5 in immunisation nursing. Increased my hours a little. By the time I get petrol allowance, and factoring in the fact that I’m not paying for extortionate car parking etc, I’m actually a little better off. And the mental health benefits of not stressing over childcare, along with a generally less stressful workload, is priceless. It’s a bit less interesting, but overall no competition

What will you not be doing at a B5, and what is that worth to you?

I dropped having students with my move. I liked having students when I had time to properly teach and supervise and see their tutors to sort problems. Being dumped with students who had no knowledge or skills was not fun and I didn't miss it and that was worth it.
