If you worked in Recruitment and left what do you do now?

My DH is Senior in Recruitment - Professional Services but Agency. He's been doing it over 10 years - a leader in his specialism but he's exhausted. Doesn't want to go In-house:

He does a mix of contingent and retained assignments but feels now (approaching 40) that agency/contingent recruitment is a young persons game! He has spoken to a search outfit who are in set up mode - he could join them and set up his specialism.

He's primary earner on a six figure salary but seriously exhausted - if we don't move house we don't need his salary to be so high.

Thoughts please!

To explain further he's not sure he wants to do Search either - the bottom line being it would be lots of BD. He would leave behind a good database of contacts etc

I feel a change of environment might do him good.

Has he done any cipd? Could he move into HR?

If he's been in recruitment he is a sales guy, so a sales role? Or coaching/training?

Why not give in house a try, if it doesn't work out it doesn't, it's very different from my experience.

Does he want to avoid in-house completely, or just specifically for recruitment? I know a few recruitment people who have moved in-house into either workforce planning or talent management, who’ve been able to apply their recruitment skills to e.g. in-house succession planning and leadership development.

He wants to avoid direct recruitment in-house.

We have looked at sales coaching and training.

I actually said it might be worth him talking to a recruiter - perhaps a Sales specialist recruiter - also the HR route is a good point.

Recruiters avoid recruiters!

I swapped to HR but I was young (early 20s) and could take the drop. Hard to get a HR job at advisor level or above with no real experience . In-house recruitment/talent would be easier .

What about RPO or MSP account management rather than being a recruiter? He can apply his knowledge of the sector, but without the treadmill of being in a direct billing role.

Alternatively, a complete move into sales (if that is his forte).
