Should I complain?

Everyone keeps telling me that I should write a letter complaining to the human resources of the place I was suppose to have started work with. I havent had the time to do it, but been thinking about it and wondering whether I should. Dad says I could even get compensation but I doubt that.

What happened was I sent my CV to the local branch in June, they rang me up and said theyd send off the CV to Head Office. About mid July, hadnt heard anything so I rang up and they said they would chase it up. Got called again and arranged an interview first week of August. Was told there and then that I had the job. Hours were weekday afternoons and Saturdays. I was suppose to start Sept 13 for training so arranged childcare. They then said my placement in training had been taken, will have to arrange another start date. Didnt hear from her, kept ringing her up. She said that she needed to check diary. But then went on holiday last week of August. When she got back, rang her up, said that the hours had changed to three full days. I cant do that, so now cant do the job. This was first week of September I found this out.

Is it worth complaining, and if so what do I say? Thanks. xxx

Hi Tammybear. Definitely think its worth complaining. Utterly unacceptable for them to muck you around like that IMHO. They should have followed up the interview with a written offer letter clearly setting out the terms of the employment (days/hours etc). It is completely unprofessional of them as well to have you chase up about training etc - that's the job of the personnel department. am not feeling particularly coherent atm - will have a think about what you might say in a letter.
