Hi mumsnetters

Please advise me. I currently work 16 hours a week over 2 days ,works with nursery as its pretty much 9-5 but ive been offered a fab 16.8hour a week job working for the nhs (maternity ward my dream!!) But im worried as i am a single parent with limited support childcare wise out of nursery hours and i know the nhs shifts run over everyday every hour.

My question is how flexiable are the nhs with shifts? Ideally i want a week day time long day and a shorter shift that way i can use my mum for before and after on the long day nursery in between and my nursery for my shorter day.

Any ideas or advice is very welcome x

You need to ask about the shifts. No one here will know how this unit operates or whether the manager is flexible. What are the shift patterns?

In my experience they are usually pretty set for hand overs - so 7am or 8am start for an ‘early’ or long day, and 2pm perhaps for a ‘late’ shift
Usually they need a set number of staff on every shift Eg 2 health care assistants and 5 RN’s so the rota will reflect who does what hours on what days

Some managers will accept set hours but some are not as keen on this, because it can cause nightmares with rostering
