More hours at work but no paid lunch break

Subject might be misleading but struggled to think of a snappy title!

I currently work part time (12:30-17:30). I was asked if I'd be prepared to take on more hours doing a different role while they're trying to find someone permanent. It would only be for about a month. I said yes and that I could do 09:30-12:30 in the other role. I viewed this as going full-time (09:30-17:30).

My manager has asked if I could do 09:30-11:30 instead because I'll need a break and I could go home before coming back in for my usual 12:30. This has really irritated me. Everyone working full-time gets paid for their lunch break and this seems like a way of trying to get out of paying me for that time. Also, everyone working over lunch time gets a free meal at work (I work in a school).

I'm not sure how to respond to the manager. I was agreeing to the extra hours because I could see they were in a fix but now I feel like a mug.

I suppose this is an AIBU and if I'm not then how do I respond to the manager?

I was going to so say I get paid break working for Aldi

I would check if the other staff do get paid or not as I would want to be treated the same as everyone else for the time you are helping them out.

I don't get a paid lunch break, but then I get a ton of perks.

Most places give you the paid 20 minute break (working over 6 hours)
Generally if your working shift is longer than 8 hours they give you a paid 30 mins lunch as well. Most office workers do 7.5 as core hours so don't get the paid lunch.

I think most places don't have paid lunch breaks OP. Check with your colleagues.

My lunch break has never been paid. I usually work through it regardless, as I'd just end up staying late to get things done otherwise.

I don’t get paid breaks, and shifts range from nine to 12 hours long. Paid breaks are unusual.

Wow yours is the only company I know that pays a lunch break. Most full timers work 9 to 5 or 5.30 so what appears to be 8 or 8.5 hours, but they hour lunch is not paid so they actually work a 7 or 7.5 hour day

Working time regs say 20 min break, unpaid normally after max 6 hours
If you don’t want the extra hours on their terms don’t do them

dontfeed it might breach working time regs, but I'm sure there are many of us doing 8-10 plus hour shifts without a proper break. (Hence our place docking the time automatically after 6 hours) it's just the way it is (I know this doesn't make it right!

Oh yes, I entirely agree (NHS here!) but it appeared as if the OP was asking if the organisation could employ her in 2 part time posts which had no break between them, which of course they couldn't.

IfNot I disagree that most places give you a paid 20 minute break after 6 hours. Thats not been my experience, not that of many people on this thread.

dontfeed I totally feel your pain there as I'm police! Don't want to hijack OPs thread, but working conditions are atrocious for all,of us I imagine!
