Help!! My dd understand her wage-slip please

My dd has just started her Saturday job and has now received her pay slip, can’t quite understand it;

Contact is 7.5hrs/week
Hourly rate is £6.74
The first part of her slip says paid £219.77

So we understand this is;
6.74 x 7.5 x 52 weeks divided by 12 months = £219.77

The part we don’t understand;
She started on Saturday 10th August
Contacted hours are 7.5hrs saturdays
Wage period is 1st - 31st August
So we understood she wouldn't be paid for Saturday 3rd August.

They have taken off £57.48 which is 8.5hrs, we understand this will be something to do with starting on the 10th and pro rata rather than just the missed 7.5hrs, but can’t quite work out the maths??

She should ask her employer. Simple.

She just wanted to understand it today, office opens Monday.

Is she salaried (a set monthly amount) or paid per hour she works?

What do the deductions say on the pay slip? Have they taxed her?

Had she been emergency taxed? I always am the first month.

She is contracted 7.5hrs per week.
Overtime is paid in addition but no overtime as yet.

No tax or national insurance.

Can you blank out any identifying details and post a picture of the breakdown on the payslip.

The deduction just says salary adjustment £57.48

So understand it’s because she hasn’t completely a full month, just not quite understanding the amount.

She can be contracted for 7.5 hours but is it itemised as a monthly salary or is she paid by the hour (in which case a payslip has to have a breakdown by law of hours worked) ?

Saturday 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st all at 7.5 hrs.

Your maths is slightly off (only by 72p) because if they calculated it in the way you're suggesting it'd be (7.5 x 52) x 6.74. That divided by 12 equals £219.05

But it makes no sense to deduct an extra hour.

Normally in retail and if a permanent member of staff the annual salary is divided by 12 to give the monthly salary. This is then divided by the amount of days in the month and in your DD’s case multiplied by the amount of days worked, so it’s regardless of the actual hours worked.

Just ask them. I'm a Payroll Manager and get questions like this all the time.

Sounds to me like they have made an error and deducted 8.5 hours instead of 7.5 for that first Saturday.
