Employer hasn't authorised wages

My sister hasn't been paid, she works 4 hour days 5 days a week and was due to be paid today, but htye haven't authorised payment. She wants to know what she can do? As it's bank holiday this weekend and it's a small company and no-one is around to authorise payment, they won't get paid until next week and if they are unable to authorise same day payment, she won't be paid until Friday. But she (and her colleagues) have Direct debits coming out.

If she has to pay an unauthorised overdraft fee, can she claim these back from her workplace?

Who usually authorises the payment?
If there is a way to get in touch with them I'd try that first. I work for a small company and 'authorising' the payment just means making payments through the bank account so could be done from home.
Is it payday today or should payment be being made early due to the bank holiday?
If bank charges are incurred then they can be claimed back but, in a small company, that's often not a simple process

The manager authorises pay.

Payday would be Monday but it's a bank holiday. They are paid via BACS, and the company rarely allows for same day payments.

How do they know it hasn't been authorised? I pay by BACS and it goes through the same day.

If payday would normally be a Monday are you certain she was due to be paid today? Does her contract say it will be Monday and if it's a bank holiday, will be the Friday before?

In addition to any actions she can take on her employer side, can she also cover things on her bank side, by contacting her bank and asking them how they can support her regarding a 1 day delay in her wages being paid by her employer.

This is to ensure the DDs aren't rejected due to insufficient funds. They could set up an approved overdraft on her account which is always more cost-efficient than an unapproved one, which would cover the amounts coming out. If she's a good customer they might even waive the fee on a single occasion, if it's only a matter of 1 day in O/d

Gone are the days when transactions take "3 to 5 working days". Banks can't get away with those delays now that electronic transactions are globalised.

I've made payments that have reached their destination within hours!

Hi she was paid, the CEO paid their wages direct from his account. To be fair 3 day payments do still exist as my workplace does it too. Not sure it's a bank thing, think it's company processes, but cant be sure.
