Temperature Regulations

Hi unsure where to put this but If an early years setting doesn’t meet the ofsted or work requirements for minimum temperature regulations what happens? Looked online but couldn’t really find a definitive answer

No legal requirements for work settings. Employees should discuss concerns with their employers. Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, Suggest a minimum of 16 degrees but that’s a recommendation and is not ordinarily enforceable.

I think Ofsted, like most regulators don’t specifically a temperature but expect reasonable interpretation of the regulations. If it’s so cold toddlers were shivering indoors, they might be bothered. A bit cool when children are running around inside and out would probably not be an issue. If they had a child who was immobile, it might need to be warmer.

And mould in winter months?! X

Have you spoken to the owner? That might be the first step.

Mildew is often caused by lack of ventilation rather than cold. Double glazing, closed windows, build up of condensation lead to black mould forming.
