Switching to freelancing from management

After I returned to maternity leave (senior management role in charity) my work were very accommodating in that they let me come back p/t and from home. The role was a fixed term contract and is about to end. I'm now ready to make the jump to freelancing, which I've wanted to do for a while.

I've now been offered a regular freelance contract at a lovely, well-respected organisation paying about the same day rate as I was getting at my old job. So far, so good.

But the new job is officer/coordinator level and I've been management, am I wrecking my CV by taking a step back? Would this ring alarm bells if you were a recruiter? Any advice would be great, I'm new to this!

For what it's worth, I do have other current freelance work (more creative type stuff) so was planning put this new job on my CV as "self employed: clients include" sort of thing. Hoping to look for bits of higher level consultancy too.

It depends on your long term goals imo, as to whether it’s negative for your CV. It doesn’t need to be if this is the position/kind of work you plan on continuing to do.
