Hi, Just started recently as a Home Carer and i'm working p/time mainly as i've got to fit everything around a 2yr old and my DH.
So my hours are 3hrs three times a week 7pm until 10pm, sometimes 10.30pm and a Saturday 8hrs.
What really bugs me is that they are constantly ringing me even on my days off, asking me if i can do a bit xtra time or to advise me of a change.
Today, i went with my DH and 2 DDs to Devon for a day long outing and they left a snotty message that i should be contactable AT ALL TIMES.
I don't even start work until tomorrow evening.
I don't even have a contract with them i'm just on Zero hours as i'm a "bank" worker so am i within my rights to ask them NOT to contact me on the days i don't work?

Ripeberry you are entitled to a written contract, at least what is known as a written statement of particulars, which must contain details of various basic things like hours, job location, pay, holiday etc. They need to issue you with this within 2 months.

Not sure about them insisting you are contactable 'at all times', but if they are asking you to do extra or advising you of change, difficult to see what else they could do if you are on a zero hours contract. I think it's fair to assume they must be able to get hold of you within reason, and they might need to do this on a day when you are not working if there is a change you need to know about.
I think you ought to be able to go out for the day without getting anyone's back up though, and them leaving you a message not having to speak to you personally ought to be fine, and not a snotty one!
