So miserable at work - nowhere else to go

Hiya

I have found myself in a bit of a rut at work, I absolutely hate it.

I work at a youth service provision, and am so underpaid for my role - seen others at 6k more. I currently manage a team but this is not in my JD and I'm not paid for this responsibility.

I've looked at other youth work jobs but I just really really don't want to do this anymore. Problem is I don't know what I want to do with my career. I don't want to work in this field but have no other skills.

What have others done in this situation? Im becoming so depressed because I really don't see another path

Sorry to be a Debbie downer!

I know how you feel, OP. It's really difficult to put yourself out there and try something new when you've spent a long time building your career up.

I read some advice on a similar thread a couple weeks back, some good tips included thinking about what you like in your current job - can be very generic e.g. speaking to people. You will then begin to learn your transferable skills. You can then have a chat with a recruitment agency to get their view about what they see your transferable skills as and the kind of jobs you can do. One tip is don't be discouraged from applying for jobs just because you feel you don't have everything they ask for in the person specification, they will sometimes give you a chance. If you have the time then try do some free courses online to enhance your skills even more. Even better, if you have time/money do some professional courses. People change careers often, don't stress yourself out about it.

Good luck Smile

Thank you. Appreciate the reply.

That's a good idea about talking to an agency. It's difficult to big myself up when feeling like this so hopefully they can shop with that. I've just done an £800 course so kinda sucks to throw it away but I just feel so done

Your mental health means more than money does, remember that Thanks
