You need to do an access course which is a year. You then need to apply to Uni for either child or adult nursing. You can work in Neonates even as an adult nurse becuse you get special training.

There are far more spaces to train as an adult nurse than as a child nurse at Uni so you will be more likely to get a place ie Adult nursing course will take say 120 students whereas child nursing 30.

Good luck you can do it.

Look at the qualifications required for the nursing course at the Uni you want to go to. The access course in health studies, nursing or science will be at a local college.

You say you left college, so did you get GCSEs prior to college? You could go an access course then a nursing degree but some courses do require GCSEs, so you’d need to check which ones. A good way to start would be by locating your nearest FE college offering access courses and seeing if there’s an open day.

Yes that true you do need English and Maths GCSE's, check with the Access course whats required.

Do I have to go uni ?? Or could I do the access course then go for an apprentice? As I've gotta work around my kids...

You could try the apprenticeship route no idea what qualificatios they require.

You could get a job as an HCA and then get your trust to sponsor / pay for you to do the nursing associate or apprenticeship course whilst you still work as an HCA.

My friends dd is doing a nursing apprenticeship, she needed 5 GCSEs including maths, English and integrated science or biology. If you have no qualifications the first step is to get advice on either GCSEs or a btec as an adult

The apprenticeship route is a degree apprenticeship so you still have to undertake university study as part of that. It’s also not offered very widely. There is an additional route via the nursing associate scheme but it’s fiercely competitive.

Have you looked into university? Because it’s often surprisingly a lot more parenting friendly than you’d imagine. Subsidised on site nurseries, extra allowances etc.
