Changed my mind about going for an interview

I spoke to my manager about a job I was interested in applying for which was a secondment opportunity. She was supportive but said she would have to get her managers approval, which she did. I’ve been invited to attend for interview but have changed my mind about the job.

What should I say to my manager? I’m conscious she has spent time negotiating this and supported me. I don’t really want to say I’ve had second thoughts in case something else comes up in the future

Thanks!!

Well what is the reason you have changed your mind?
I wouldn't cancel without a jolly good reason.

I don’t think you can turn it down without a good reason, either. But remember interviews are two-way - look at why you're wanting to turn it down. Ask questions in the interview to get clarification on those issues.

I think you should go to the interview as it would be rude and frustrating for you not to

Can you not just go for the interview and if you get offered (unlikely if you are not enthusiastic) change your mind at that point.

Looks better than pulling out now especially if you don't have a good reason.

If it's internal you really should go. Unless you've got a good reason, and even if you do, it may reflect badly on you for any future opportunities.
