Concerned about new job falling through

Looking for reassurance / perspective / thoughts / a hand hold...

I am due to start a new job very soon, and leave my current job tomorrow. I've had a long three month notice period, but new job agreed to wait.

However, I feel something is off with my new employer, for a few reasons.

At the imterview stage I could tell it was quite an old fashioned place, in fact my job has been created to try and modernise. But they never asked for references, and I haven't heard from them since they sent me the contract.

While that may not seem too weird on its own, I've also heard the two people who hired me have left the company. I'm not sure if they left willingly or not, but these two people are the ones who decided to create the position I will be taking. This makes me feel nervous - that maybe the company has had a resturucture and won't need or want me anymore.

It's quite a small company so I don't think they have a HR department. I am nervous the job will be withdrawn, and feel uneasy that both the people who hired me have gone. I will look like a complete idiot if it turns out I've resigned and left a job, for one that withdraws their offer.

Does anyone have any advice ?

Have you been in touch with them at all?

No, not since sending the contract

I'd phone and ask to speak to whoever replaced the person who hired you. Don't ask if you still have a job, just assume you have and check what time they want you on the first day.

No job is safe from being axed im afraid. I work in HR and get involved in restructures all the time.

You are more vulnerable when you're new but that's the risk you take with moving on.

Were you hired to do a similar job to the people who've now left? It could be that you’re their replacement. I’d call just to ‘touch base’ and ask about your reporting line, induction etc..

You’ve not been in touch?!

Just get in touch with them, say you’re really looking forward to starting, you’ve heard the two have left, and wondered who you should report to on your first day
