Leaving job after a year = red flag?

Looking for some perspective. I am leaving my job after just over a year. I took the job in desperation after redundancy, and realised it wasn't for me.

I have another job to go to, but not sure how long I will be in this job, as the company is taking me on in a new position - they may decidde they don't need this role. I took this role because my current job is making me stressed to the point of illness.

I will obviously try my best, but if worst comes to the worst and I have to job hunt, will this look terrible on my cv? leaving one job after a year, and anoter possible short stint in the next one?

I don’t think so, so long as you have valid reasons for leaving. If you leave the new one it sounds like it will be down to the employer, not you. You are not obliged to stay in a job if you don’t like it - personally I think cut your losses and move on to something you do want to do.

I’m looking for a new job after two months! I’m only applying for promotions though so that will be my excuse. My real reason is that it’s a crap job, a grade up but a massive step down responsibility wise and I’m going to be deskilled very quickly if I stay too long.

I wouldn't hold it against you if you said that you took any job rather than no job whilst looking for the right job (ie the one you were interviewing for). It would show a good work ethic to me.

Obviously some people might think that it shows a lack of commitment, but if you have a very valid reason and a good record previous to that, then I hope it won't be a problem for you

I don’t think it’s a bad thing. If the job isn’t right for you, then you need to move on. It can take a while for the right job to come along and we do need to actually do the job, to know whether we are the right fit or not.

I’ve just taken a part time job because I didn’t want to be unemployed after my fixed term contact ended in May. It’s poorly paid and I need something with more hours and more money. I’ve another interview Friday! At the end of the day, poor pay/ stress etc doesn’t help pension pots, bills or morale. Do what’s right for YOU. Employers don’t think twice about getting shot of employees for various reasons!
