Sick Leave and Planned Holidays

This week my GP gave me a sick note for 2 weeks. The date he wanted to see me back I told him i was on a planned holiday. He altered my sick note dates, reducing them to when my holiday starts.
Is there a legal reason that he would not give me a sick note until the appointment he booked to see me again? Does anyone know?

Maybe he thinks that way you’ll have to take fewer days sick absence from work which will look better on your record ? If you’re going to be off anyway then why make your sock record look worse than it needs to.

On the other hand I’m sure I saw somewhere that if you are off sick on days you had planned to take as holiday then you could cancel the holiday and take them as sick instead. I guess which one you do depends on the state of your sick record and if you’re likely to trigger any HR sick level processes

This sounds more like you not trusting your GP than an employment issue, OP!

You can't have sick leave and holiday leave at the same time, it's one or the other.

Did you not ask him why he did it at the time? Or were you not there.

I imagine he's not an employment law expert, and therefore doesn't realise that if you are not fit to work, you can get planned holiday days back and have them as sick leave instead. He probably just thought there's no point signing you off for a period you won't be at work anyway, but actually it's important he does, because then you can get your holiday days back, at least the ones that are covered by a sick note.

Can you go back and ask for it to be amended? It shouldn't be a problem, because his job is to sign you as being unfit for work for the length of time you'll be unfit for. It's not relevant to him whether you'll be on holiday.
