Training that requires people to have been in receipt of benefits

Hello,

My 18 year old is going to an information and guidance meeting with a group that offers training for an industrial job.

I have read through the application and job description and noticed that the company requires individuals to be unemployed and in receipt of benefits. My son is unemployed but he does not receive benefits (he wanted to find work rather than sign on).

I am a bit worried that he will get no further that the guidance meeting because of this. Would I be correct in thinking the company are funded from a stream that requires trainees to have formerly been in receipt of benefits? If so, is there anything we can do

It’s because they will be paid on contract with the dwp. It may be worth contacting them to see if they run other programmes for people not on benefit. It might also be worth him signing on whilst job searching as there may be other courses suitable fo him

Thank you. I am encouraging him to sign on as well.
