Looking for some advice, I started a new job a few weeks ago, 28 hrs a week, offered more but said I couldn’t commit to any more as I have a second job but would be flexible. Rota for next 2 months is now out and I am working 38-41 hours every week! Flexible to me meant swapping shifts, doing a couple of extra hours not regularly working full time. I haven’t worked for anyone other than my husband for a long time so not sure if this is reasonable?

If you can’t do it or don’t want to, let your manager know you aren’t available for the extra.

I've seen job adverts where flexible working means extra hours, yes. Usually the extra hours are added when the employee has said at an earlier point they are available to do them though. From what you've said, you haven't given them any availability other than the hours advertised.

eg job is 8.00am to 1.00pm, but employee may be asked to work until 3.00pm if they have said they are available.
