Any advice from supply teachers out there...am returning to teaching after a looooong break (20 years!) and have registered for supply. Hoping for some advice from any more experienced in the world of supply - top tips for survival!!

I will be interested to hear how you get on Mossie. My break has been 12 years and have been contemplating supply for extra money. How do you feel about going back after the long break?

Watching this with interest. I'm not ready to go back yet but am considering supply when I eventually do.

Not supply but have worked with a supply next door who returned after a long while.
Be prepared for a huge change in the children - this is what shocked her the most. The lack of respect and the use of phones.

Be up to date with the technology the school use so that you can start lessons on time. Find out if a laptop/computer is available in class.

Ask for the behaviour policy to be explained so you know the procedures

Be nice to the teacher in the classroom next door so you can ask them anything!

Day to day supply is covered by 'cover supervisors' in lots of secondary schools now. Be prepared for your agency to offer you work as an unqualified teacher for half your pay rate!
Your best bet will be long term work which unfortunately comes with a lot more commitment!
