Doing 2 peoples jobs, advice needed

So this might be a long post, but I would really appreciate any advice

My boss left where I work just over a month ago. 2 months prior when I was told he was leaving they said I could apply for his job but was probably a year off of being able to do it (which I took as don't bother wasting your time applying you won't get it anyway.)

Due to my industry it often takes a few months to employ someone else due to longer notice periods.

They told me they were splitting my old bosses workload between me and another employee. I've been given about 80% of it.

To say I've struggled is an understatement. I have been seeing a counselor for work stress the last few weeks.

Im gutted that initially I didn't think to speak up. I was never asked if I could and would want to accept the extra responsibility. I did ask if I would be rewarded and was given a payrise for my existing job. I have since asked for a monthly bonus to cover the extra work until new boss starts but have yet to receive an answer. I'm essentially doing my bosses job and mine. I've been very close to being signed off with stress and I want to call in Sick every day.

Mentally I have left the company now and am looking for a new job.

Not really sure what im asking for, I just feel I need to let it all out and if you've made it this far thank you

Forgot to mention new boss starts in a couple of months. I will no doubt have to train them.

@dontpresssendtoosoon I nearly did a month ago but luckily I got in to see a counselor pretty quickly to help me cope

You shouldnt have to see a counselor to cope. Your workload should be managable. Go back to whoever split the work and tell them in no uncertain terms its not working. Do your normal job. Everytime someone asks you to do more ask which other task you should drop.
