How do people live on these wages and hours?

I’ve been applying for loads of jobs the last few weeks as my mh is a lot better ( reason I haven’t worked for a while)
But I come across a lot of part time hours, I’ve applied for a job that is only 8 hours today. I don’t understand how it works? How do people live off those wages? How would I pay my rent council tax water electric being worse off working part time?

They claim benefits

You would receive some benefits as well depending on how much you earn and how many hours you work. You may even get full housing benefit. You need to look online to find out what you'd be entitled to so you know how much you'd have.

When you've got children under 4 it's easier for one parent to work full time and one parent on part time hours until the children are in school. We manage without benefits. My partner does 40hrs and I do 10-15hrs. I don't want to be a SAHP but I have to be somewhat whilst also working when nursery can't provide childcare.

I can understand though if your on your own those hours are no good.

But yes you'd have to do benefits but if you go on uc they'll make you work 36 hours a week if you've no children, they stop your benefits if you don't. so it might just be easier to keep searching for more hours and take what you can get

People who cannot work due to disability or illness can still get Universal Credit.
People who are able to work and doing few hours but trying to get more hours can still get Universal Credit.

No scaremongering or misinformation please.

Not necessarily benefits....some have a partner earning enough that they can afford to only work a little.

Students or people with multiple jobs

Obviously a part time position of 8 hours is not suitable for someone wanting to run a home on one wage
I used to work 12 hours a week because it suited my family my DH earns enough to pay for all our living costs My salary was my pocket money
I am presently looking for a few hours a week so 8 hrs in the right job would suit me fine

Students, retirees, people with a partner who earns a living wage.
