I should know this anyway but when it's yourself, you get tied in knots! I am applying for a job in a different area with much higher wages comparatively. Where they have asked for my salary, would it look really bad if I put n/a?

It's online and leaves space for a full answer, not a small box on paper so I have always left them blank...

And as a voluntary charity trustee should I put this in the job or membership section?

Are they asking for your current salary or the salary you require?

Assuming it's your current salary, by all means put n/a. There's talk in the US of banning the question, as it tends to lock women into lower wage tiers. I'll bet lots of people don't answer it.

Sorry, current salary!

N/A is fine then.

Thanks MissConduct Smile

Any advice about whether to list being a trustee as a job or membership?

What were you a trustee of? If you were paid, it was a job.

By the way, I sometimes have to hire staff in my position, and our standard application asks for current salary. It's often omitted. The only times I recall it making a difference was when an applicant was already making more than we could offer. If I wanted to interview her I'd make sure she knew that before she came in.

I am currently a trustee of a charity. Listed on Companies House, responsible for financial/legal governance/staff etc. I do this on a voluntary basis so not sure if I should list it as a job or not....

Here in the US that would commonly be listed in a separate section of the resume headed "Volunteer Experience" or similar. I was Treasurer of my parish church for a time and that's where I list that.

Sorry, but employment issues are broadly different in the US than the UK. It’s not really a good idea to start advising people on forums in the UK when you only have experience of America. Even if some issues are similar.
