Returning to NHS - higher up the pay band?

I’m returning to the NHS - I worked there previously as a band 3 med sec then a band 4, for about 4 years.

Do you think I’ll be able to negotiate starting further up the salary band due to my previous NHS experience?

It would definitely be worth asking, in my experience these things vary from Trust to Trust. How long since you left? What band is your new job? At my current Trust RNs can demand to be higher up the Band but I’ve not personally seen a none RN do it.

TLDR- try!

Was it in the same field? If so, then it’s worth pursuing.

Left 5 years ago. I’ve been a band 5 RN and a band 3/4 med sec. Returning as a band 4 med sec.

I don’t think your Band 5 RN would qualify but your previous Band 4 Med Sec work should be taken into account for your starting salary point.

I have asked HR and waiting them to come back to me. I’ve done my DBS checks online and they have my employment details for the past 3 years for references. I’ve done occupational health screening.

My last DBS checks for volunteering took a week. I don’t have any notice period. I wonder if I’m being too optimistic in thinking I might be able to start the role in early June?!

Length of time for DBS checks is a bit hit and miss I’m afraid - good luck!

They said no to starting further up the salary scale. Sad

I don’t feel too bad as we are only here until the end of the year when DH gets drafted somewhere else (he’s military).
